oldest and largest Pentecostal denominations in the world, with
international headquarters located in Cleveland, TN. |
Without a doubt, the doctrines and beliefs of a church should be of the upmost importance. People should be aware that what a church teaches and practices impacts both their soul and spiritual life. In an era full of deception, when false prophets preach a false gospel, when false churches teaching false doctrines abound, when both the bible and the church are under constant attack, a person must be totally sure that their church is firmly grounded in scripture and not some unbiblical belief system which can lead people astray.
Christian Union is part of the Church of God, based in Cleveland, Tennessee, which is the nation’s oldest pentecostal denomination. Being a part of this organization provides stability, accountability and sound doctrine. As such, we would basically be categorized as a spirit-filled, evangelical, bible-based church. We believe in the one, true living God as revealed in scripture and that salvation only comes through faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior and Redeemer. We believe in the infallibility of the entirety of the bible, which is God’s holy word given unto mankind so as he can be reconciled unto God. Quite plainly, our atittude toward God’s word is simple…if you can’t believe all the bible how can you believe any of the bible?
That’s why we preach and teach the word of God as men wrote down precious words of life and truth as they were moved upon by the Spirit of the Living God, which is able to save mankind and gives instructions on how we are to live righteously. Our faith is not in some philosophy, not some religious tradition, nor what’s the latest fad on the religious scene…we just fully adhere to the word of God. We furthermore reject the notion that God’s word should be in a constant state of flux and must change to adapt to modern’s man’s desires and whims. The bible clearly declares that “God’s word is forever settled in heaven“, therefore it doesn’t change just because some group may say it should.
Being a part of the Church of God, Cleveland, Tn., we subscribe to it basic doctrines and beliefs. The first 14 declarations listed below are part of the Church of God’s declaration of faith, which are based solely on scripture. Those listed afterward are of our own personal convictions. Therefore, we believe:
1. In the verbal inspiration of the Bible.
2. In one God eternally existing in three persons; namely the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
3. That Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father, conceived of the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus was crucified, buried, and raised from the dead. That He ascended to heaven and is today at the right hand of the Father as the Intercessor.
4. That all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and that repentance is commanded of God for all and necessary for forgiveness of sins.
5. That justification, regeneration and the new birth are wrought by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ.
6. In sanctification, subsequent to the new birth, through faith in the blood of Christ; through the Word, and by the Holy Ghost
7. Holiness to be God’s standard of living for His people.
8. In the baptism with the Holy Ghost subsequent to a clean heart.
9. In speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance and that it is the initial evidence of the baptism in the Holy Ghost.
10. In water baptism by immersion, and all who repent should be baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
11. Divine Healing is provided for all in the Atonement.
12. In the Lord’s Supper and washing of the saint’s feet.
13. In the premillennial second coming of Jesus. First, to resurrect the righteous dead and to catch away the living saints to him in the air. Second, to reign on the earth a thousand years.
14. In the bodily resurrection; eternal life for the righteous, and eternal punishment for the wicked.
15. The giving of tithes and offering unto the Lord.
16. Operation of Spiritual Gifts within the body of believers for the edification of the church and that signs and wonders will follow those that believe. |
